“nickkohri ” is a despicable person and would go to the level of vitiating the good atmosphere. We are here to listen to the song and enjoy it. Only constructive comments and those in good taste and concerning to the particular song only like lyrics, music, singing and star performance should be allowed. The rest may please be removed.
I assert that it is beautiful song in its own right and there is no reason to dispute the talent of Suman Kalyanpur. Thanks.

The music was much better in the old days but The actors and actresses could not dance to save their lives. Imagine,Priyanka or Priety Zinta dancing on this song.

Thanks for this beautiful song. Shagoon songs defenitely prooves her ability. Though one thing is fact that she could not sing on high pitches as much Asha and Lata could sing. Just listen the song `Parbaton ke pedo par’ . But still, whenever she got a chance she proved it.

Unfortunately lot of unconcerned comments are raised. A genuine viewer should comment positively concerning only to the song / video instead of making it public forum for other issues.

I must confess that every time I start listening to SK, I must do a double-take before realizing it’s not Lata. This doesn’t diminish SK’s talent for me ; it only enhances it in my ears. Lata is the standard for me. Anyone whose voice is that close to her sweetness is a winner in my eyes. Beautiful clip. Thanks, dipiaar.

Suman Kalyanpur comes to her own in this song. She neither copied Lata nor tried to mimic her style. She stood on her own merit. She gave us beautiful numbers especially with Rafi and Manna Dey, Kishore, Mukesh. Let us appreciate her for her talent and this song is certainly testimony to that truth

I have read them and while you may take everything you read in film rags as the gospel truth, I prefer to think for myself, and form my own judgements. Each to his own.

Since folks don’t go around terming Lata a “B-grade movie” singer, it’s fair to conclude that the moniker “Poor Man’s Lata” is deployed for the express purpose of diminishing Suman’s achievements and contribution to HFM. The fact that the pharse was coined by a thoughtless, discredited, hack like Raju Bharatan is even more reason not to give it any currency!

I’m not disputing that most of Suman’s songs were for B/C-grade films. So are most of Lata’s songs! That’s because the vast majority of Hindi films are B/C-grade affairs.

I fully agree with you madam. But great men too do make mistakes[S.D.Burman calling her a Lata-duplicate was one such] Another point that nickkohri ji has raised–there are many films in which Lata/Asha /Rafi [& other 'costly' singers] & Suman have sung songs for the same film.Dil ek mandir, Sanjh aur savera,Dil hi to hai etc.Where is economics of music recording cost, there ?

I don’t think Suman got this song because Lata refused to sing with Rafi! Lata-Rafi didn’t sing together from about1965-1968, and while Suman certainly gained several duets with Rafi because of that, it’s does a talented singer a grave injustice to dismiss her as merely a “poor man’s Lata.”

You are right. Opportunities opened for Suman only when Lata refused to sing. Otherwise who would have looked at duplicate when original was available ?
